@Netoraremancer@poa.st and people with those are who I'm talking about wrangling there's reason to believe unannounced underground nuclear detonations have occurred, which should have a distinct seism
Current reply
@Netoraremancer@poa.st twice that I can recall there have been small "earthquakes" in iran during periods of tension with the US and the US immediately backed off each time. I thought and said at the time that those could have been iran setting off small nukes as warnings
what's different this time is we supposedly blew up their whole nuclear program last year. and it turns out some high ranking IRGC guy was a spy, who may have said there were no new nukes ready to go. maybe that's why it was so important to attack now, in a narrow window of opportunity
obviously this is all speculation. but I don't take it as given that if a nuke was used, the people who can detect it are gonna run out in the streets screaming about it

there's reason to believe unannounced underground nuclear detonations have occurred, which should have a distinct seismic signature. but who has a seismograph and also knows what a nuke looks like on it? hardly anyone

@BroDrillard@nicecrew.digital maybe israel got their hands on an old ballistic missile submarine
or perhaps their newest sub, the Drakon, can carry larger missiles than previously suspected

@Groomschild@poa.st there's no way to supply a beachhead even if troops manage to land without being killed. the water is even more contested than the air

@hazlin@shortstacksran.ch yeah, I'm sure they're going to negotiate with the guy who has attacked them during negotiations twice already, and used the same tactic on others as well
if we had hit more of their power infrastructure they would've already retaliated, so that didn't happen

the timing in a hit-to-kill ballistic missile interceptor system has gotta be super super tight. sub-millisecond
and that assumes ideal performance. what about variance in the rocket motors? guidance? are these things capable of hitting the same spot in space every single time on demand? I doubt it

all iran needs to do is shoot down a B-2 so we can put the "survivability" argument away for good

this dipshit prompted me to compare the A-10 and Su-25 in detail. the one clear advantage it has is better short field capability. otherwise? A-10 wins in every category. I would appreciate the Su-25's speed if it didn't come at such a cost, but there is such a thing as being too fast, and the Su-25 is that
so if you call the Su-25 instead of the A-10 *maybe* it gets to you marginally faster, but it only brings 50-60% as many bombs, has to leave much quicker, can't see the ground situation as well, and can't hit your targets as accurately because it can't fly as slow. it also gets shot down easier, though the pilot will probably survive
btw yes the A-10 does have rough field capability and no it is not difficult to maintain. it's the cheapest combat plane we have and it's not close
I don't think the Su-25 sucks. but the A-10 is essentially the ideal plane for the CAS role. the shit people complain about out of ignorance is what makes it good. want to make it better? add better avionics or sensors or something. don't touch the airframe

a battery of 155mm can put 1200 pounds on target every minute sustained. that's the throw weight of a max payload F-15EX sortie every 25 minutes
do you think an F-15 can fly home, load back up on bombs and fuel, and be back overhead in 25 minutes? of course not. it's gonna be 90-120 minutes if it comes back at all
